Biker Tattoos - Points to Consider Before Getting Inked

Getting a tattoo to signify a specific trait, belief, or ideal is one way to appreciate art and the human body. Anything that is of value to the person who acquires a tattoo may be used as a design, just like the known tattoos for bikers. For those who are interested in getting their own biker tattoo, here are a few pointers to consider before getting inked:

A tattoo symbolizes a particular idea that the person who wears it wants to share with the world. Tattoos may be in the form of images or special characters, even words or phrases in various languages. In the case of biker tattoos, the symbols may stand for a particular affiliation with a group to distinguish one from another. These tattoos are created using markings that are of importance to the bikers. Its meaning can be compared to the creation of a flag, with all the elements signifying a certain belief that the bikers have in common.

One of the typical images used by bikers is the skull. The skull has been associated to pirates with the presence of two bones that form a cross below it. But for bikers, the skull takes different forms through the addition of many other elements such as banners, swords, flames, among others.

Also, the biker tattoos that portray a Harley Davidson motorcycle are common to bike enthusiasts. These images may be obtained from the said manufacturer, and are often used to signify an inclination to the desire of getting the best out of the hobby. In relation to its meaning to an individual, it may be taken as a person's superiority and style, thus the symbol of the motorcycle considered to be among the best that is present in the market.

While the inclination of people to the art of tattooing can be traced way back in history when man is still in the most primitive state. Tribes of many countries take tattoos as a symbol of coming of age. Each tattoo may have a different meaning from the other; some tattoos are specifically worn by warriors, some by heads of the tribe, and even some marks the stigma of a criminal. This may be one of the reasons why for some conservative people, getting a tattoo is associated to evil doings.

And finally, though tattoos are regarded as inappropriate by others, many enthusiasts would argue that the presence of a tattoo on one's skin is just like any other form of art like painting and photography. In this case, the human body becomes the canvas and the paint becomes the medium of expression for the artist. It is said that a portrait is the expression of the artist's soul, and not of the subject. Whereas in tattoos, the images are the expression of the whole being of both the artist and the person who gets inked. Hence, biker tattoos are creations of both individuals, and not just of the artist who makes it.
